On April 21, 2016 @ 3:52 PM the Middleton Police Department was notified of a vehicle which was failing to stop for a Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy in the area of Fox Bluff Lane and Cth. M in the Town of Westport.  The Dane County Sheriff’s Department was attempting to stop this eluding vehicle after it was observed driving in a reckless manner.  
Near the intersection of Century Avenue and Branch Street, in the City of Middleton, the Dane County Sheriff’s Department terminated their attempts to stop this vehicle while the eluding vehicle continued to travel westbound on Century Avenue.
At the intersection of Century and Frank Lloyd Wright Avenue, the driver of this reckless vehicle struck two middle school aged children who were walking in the crosswalk and attempting to cross Century Avenue.   Both children, as a result of being struck, received serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
The driver of this vehicle continued westbound on Century Avenue, causing additional accidents, until their vehicle became disabled in the area of the 7300 block.   At this location, members of the Middleton Police Department and Dane County Sheriff’s Department took the driver into custody.
Based on the complexity and seriousness of this incident, the investigation of this event is being led by a County Wide Investigation Team.   The County Wide Investigation Team, which is comprised of investigators from law enforcement agencies not involved in the initial incident, will manage, lead and conduct a thorough investigation into this incident.
